1. Who we are
This website is operated by The Lord's Consultancy (“TLC”, “we”), tax and law practitioners, Room 20, 2nd Floor, 40 Weston Street, Kolkata – 700013, West Bengal. For personal data received through this website, TLC is the data fiduciary within the meaning of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (“DPDP Act”).
2. What we collect
- Enquiries (Contact page): your name, organisation, email address, phone number, practice area, the names of any other parties involved, any urgency or deadline you mention, and your message.
- Career applications (Careers page): your name, email address, phone number, the role and office you apply for, your qualification, your résumé (uploaded file or link) and your cover note.
- Newsletter (Home page): your email address.
- Technical data: like any website, our hosting provider receives technical information such as your IP address and browser type when you visit.
Please do not send confidential documents or sensitive details through the website until we have confirmed that we can act for you.
3. Why we use it
- to respond to your enquiry and decide whether we can assist, including a check for conflicts of interest using the party names you give us;
- to consider your job application;
- to send the newsletter you subscribed to;
- to keep a record of enquiries and our responses, and to protect the website against misuse.
We process enquiry and application data for the purpose for which you voluntarily provide it (section 7(a) of the DPDP Act), and newsletter data on the basis of your consent (section 6). We do not use your data for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not send unsolicited marketing.
4. Who processes it for us
We use a small number of service providers, each acting on our instructions:
- Wix.com, which hosts this website and receives and stores form submissions and our enquiry register;
- Google, which provides our email service, through which enquiry records and summaries are sent to us, and the web fonts used on this website (your browser requests the fonts from Google when a page loads);
- Anthropic, whose AI assistant, Claude, we use to organise our enquiry register and prepare internal summaries. It does not reply to you or give you advice: every enquiry is reviewed by a member of our team.
These providers may process data outside India. Such transfers are made as permitted under section 16 of the DPDP Act. We may also disclose personal data where required by law or by an order of a court or authority.
5. How long we keep it
We keep personal data only for as long as it is needed for the purpose for which it was given, and then erase it, unless a law requires us to keep it for longer (section 8(7) of the DPDP Act). In particular:
- Enquiries that do not lead to an engagement: three years from our last contact with you, so that we can answer follow-up questions and carry out conflict checks.
- Career applications: twelve months from receipt, unless you ask us to keep your application on file for longer.
- Newsletter subscriptions: while you remain subscribed. When you unsubscribe, we stop sending the newsletter immediately and keep your email address only on a do-not-contact list, which we erase one year after you unsubscribe.
In every case we keep the record and the associated logs of its processing for at least one year from the date of processing, as rule 8(3) of the Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025 requires. When a retention period ends, the data is erased. If you ask us to erase your data earlier (section 12 of the DPDP Act), we will do so, except for anything we are required by law to keep.
Information relating to an engagement is retained in accordance with our professional obligations and the terms of that engagement.
6. Security and confidentiality
Access to enquiries and applications is limited to authorised TLC personnel. If a personal data breach occurs, we will act in accordance with the DPDP Act and the rules made under it.
7. Your rights
Subject to the DPDP Act, you may ask us to:
- give you a summary of the personal data we hold about you and how we use it (section 11);
- correct, complete, update or erase your personal data (section 12);
- withdraw any consent you have given, for example by unsubscribing from the newsletter (section 6(4));
- address a grievance about how we have handled your data (section 13); and
- nominate another person to exercise these rights on your behalf in the event of your death or incapacity (section 14).
Withdrawing consent does not affect processing carried out before the withdrawal. If your grievance is not resolved by us, you may approach the Data Protection Board of India after exhausting our grievance process, as provided in section 13(3).
8. Children
This website is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data of anyone under the age of eighteen.
9. Cookies and browser storage
We do not use advertising or analytics cookies. This website stores two small items in your browser: your acceptance of the Bar Council of India disclaimer (cleared when you close the browser tab) and a temporary access token used to submit forms. Our hosting provider may use technical cookies needed to operate and secure the website.
10. Contact
For any question, request or grievance about personal data, write to Sumit Kumar, Founder, at admin@tlctaxlaw.in, or by post to Room 20, 2nd Floor, 40 Weston Street, Kolkata – 700013. We aim to respond within thirty days.
11. Changes
We will update this policy as our practices change and as the rules under the DPDP Act come into force. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
